Product Description

Our two day Brown trout fishing tour to Connemara transports you to see one of Ireland’s 7 Wonders – ‘Kylemore Abbey and Victorian walled garden’ at the very western and wild side of Ireland. We show you the most breathtaking sights and scenery Connemara has on offer. You will fish on one of Europe’s last remaining wild Brown trout fisheries – Lough Corrib. With the wild Atlantic on one side of you during the day and wild endless mountains on the other, you will feel so elated driving through this amazing place. One of only two places in Ireland where sheep have the right of way over cars on the road! In the morning and evening, you have to be careful driving as they tend to sleep on the main roads!

Connemara is one of the most beautiful and mysterious regions in Ireland. Its craggy mountains, loughs (lakes) and wild landscape will stay with you forever.

You will have the late morning and afternoon of your first day to experience the Brown trout fishing on Ireland second largest lough, Lough Corrib. After a terrific days fishing you can wander into Oughterard for some dinner and perhaps a drink or two with the locals. The following morning you will rejoin the Extreme Ireland tour and continue your fabulous Connemara trip.

We have the very best tour guides in the business with charming accents who will tell you tales of old and interesting Irish facts all day long! They will guarantee you will not want to get off the bus at the end of your magical day trip with us. Ah sure we may even join you for pint of the black stuff after the tour is over!

Join us on this fun filled journey to experience the very best that Connemara has to offer. Breathe the fresh air of the Atlantic and explore the many different shapes and rock formations that are surrounded in mystery and history. Can you draw up the courage of a lion to walk across one of Ireland’s amazing bogs or maybe a leisurely stroll along the beautiful sweeping beach looking out on Killary Fjord is more your idea of heaven.

DAY 1
6:30am
Depart from the old stone church on Suffolk St Dublin 2. We will make our way west out of Dublin City heading for Galway as our adventure begins.

9:00am
Arrive in Galway for a short stop for a coffee before hitting the coast road. If we have any passengers to pick up from Galway we will be departing Galway city at 9:30 am.

9:30am
We then take the very scenic road from Galway towards Oughterard, the gateway to Connemara and passing through quaint villages on the way with views unmatched anywhere else in Ireland. Connemara is unique in the fact that it has no official boundaries to let you know that you are in Connemara. You just know you’re there! Not far into our journey you will get to stop at the famous bridge that was used in the Quiet Man film with John Wayne. Take a picture with your guide as they all think they are John Wayne!

10.30am
Arrive in Oughterard, where you will be met by your host and taken to Camillaun Lodge to settle into your lodgings, collect your fishing gear and your boat.

11.45am
Commence your fishing expedition on Lough Corrib – one of the greatest wild Brown trout fisheries in Europe!

1pm
Enjoy your packed lunch on one of the 365 islands dotted across Lough Corribs’ waterscape.

Evening
Return to Camillaun, have a hot shower and wander into Oughterard for supper at one of the local restaurants and a few drinks with the locals at the local pubs.

DAY 2
Breakfast
Breakfast is at Camillaun Lodge and then you are free to explore Oughterard and surroundings for an hour or so before rejoining the Extreme Ireland tour bus at 10.30 am.

11.15am
We will stop at Maam Cross where you will see for the first time one of numerous lakes that makes Connemara so famous. This is a Gaeltacht region where the locals speak Irish so you may have to learn a few words on your journey if you want a cup of tea! Not all of Connemara is a Gaeltacht region but some pockets keep Irish alive as their first language. It is a beautiful language and music to the ears. Someone said once that listening to Irish spoken was the most relaxing thing in the world. I would have to agree. While driving we will have the Maumturk Mountains to our right side before seeing the magnificent Glencoaghan horseshoe part of the Twelve Bens Mountain range, one of Ireland’s famous hiking routes. We will arrive in the lovely village of Recess where we will break for a short while.

12:00pm
We now make our way through the wonderful Inagh Valley, famous for the phone advertisement of losing reception. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Connemara where we will stop to take in the breath-taking views with some photos. Our next stop is at Kylemore Abbey (photo stop), one of the most distinct buildings in Ireland. It was a female only boarding school for years but now is mainly used by nuns for retreat and for tourists to visit. It is nestled at the base of Druchruach Mountain on the northern shore of Lough Pollacappul and is regarded as one of the most romantic places in Ireland. Originally built in 1867 as a romantic gift, the abbey is again steeped in history, including tragedy and Royal visits.

12:30pm
After we depart from this majestic setting, we will make our way to ‘Killary Fjord’, Ireland’s only fjord. Marvel at all the mussel beds in the fjord as you look at Mweelrea, the highest mountain on the west coast of Ireland. You will not be disappointed with this natural wonder of the world. On the 90 minute cruise you can listen to a history of the area, enjoy a light lunch or an Irish Coffee in the cafe/bar, or simply go out on deck and watch the mountains, the sea and the sky. If you are lucky, a pod of dolphins may come to join us for a time!

2:00pm
We will hop on the bus again through the little village of Leenane where the enigmatic movie “The Field” was filmed. This story of The Bull McCabe really instils in you how land is in every Irish person’s mindset. We will be driving in a circular route that will take in a picture stop of the Sheeffry Hills before making our way back to Maam and then onto Galway City.

4:30pm
Spend an hour walking & sightseeing around Galway city before departing back for Dublin. Visit the main shopping district. Walk down to the busy harbour and see the Spanish Arch. Galway is a bohemian and happy city with a very young population. Home to the Claddagh Ring and 14 families, there is amazing history in this city. This was the last place Christopher Columbus visited before making his way over to the West Indies.

8:00pm
Arrive back in Dublin to reminisce about your fun filled day!
