On this superbly scenic 7 day guided tour, we travel from Dublin to Westport in County Mayo, down the West coast of Connemara to Galway City, traversing this outstanding West of Ireland coastline in a journey of a lifetime.

Tantalize all your senses, on this breathtaking adventure, taking in wild Atlantic lands and seascapes with activities and experiences that include: walking, foraging, cycling, kayaking, adventure, islands, pilgrim sites, castles, storytelling, the history & heritage of the region, boats, trains, conservation, festivals, sailing, local artisan foods, traditional music & dance and the legendary local people, which all make up the rich fabric that is the West of Ireland. Cycle and explore the Great Western Greenway, our first taste of the Wild Atlantic Way!
Breath in the salty Atlantic sea air, feel the wind at your back as you experience the wild and rugged land and seascapes. Escaping the bustle of urban life on this multi-award-winning Westport to Achill Great Western Greenway, the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland.
Cycle one or more of this 42 km staged route. Stop off at various signature points along the route.
Enjoy your gourmet picnic lunch set up on route, showcasing the wonderful artisan food available in the area-weather permitting. (Otherwise we will have our gourmet lunch at the Mulranny Park hotel along the Greenway route, with its beautiful setting overlooking Clew Bay.)

Day 2 – Follow in St Patrick’s footsteps and then discover Connemara!

Continue along the Wild Atlantic Way travelling to the Discovery point of Murrisk Abbey
Travel to the haunting Famine memorial. At Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s pilgrimage mountain, climb to summit/part of this route. This iconic mountain which dominates the landscape of west Mayo is an unmissable treat! Climbing the Reek, is an ancient tradition
We continue on our driving route toward Louisburgh and the Discovery point of Old Head.
We travel though the majestic mountainous Dhulough Pass.

The story of Kylemore – both Castle and Abbey – is a truly remarkable one. The twists of fate which its occupants experienced, from moments of romance and happiness, to sadness and courage have all combined to create a fascinating history spanning over 150 years.
Kylemore is home to a community of nuns of the Benedictine Order who came there in 1920 after their abbey in Ypres, Belgium was destroyed in World War I. Settling at Kylemore, the Benedictine Community opened a world renowned boarding school for girls and began restoring the Abbey, Gothic Church and Victorian Walled Garden to their former glory.

13h30 We continue on our wild way, hugging the Atlantic coastline travelling through the capital of Connemara, Clifden, and up to the scenic Discovery point of the Sky Rd
Next, we travel down to the Discovery point of Derrygimlagh, the historic landing site of the first transatlantic flight and a bit further to see the site of the Marconi Radio Station, famous for receiving the first transatlantic radio communications
15h00 We continue and travel across the hauntingly beautiful Bog Road to the picturesque fishing village of Roundstone
16h00 In Roundstone we stop for tea /coffee and a visit to Roundstone Musical Shop, a Bodrhan (traditional Irish drum) maker
16h35 Continue our travels along the coast with views of the majestic 12 Bens mountain range
17h30 Arrival and welcome at the 4* Zetland Hotel, in the tranquil coastal village of Cashel

Day 6 – Exploring the Irish Gaeltacht, beach foraging , sailing the Wild Atlantic & coral beaches

Travel through the heart of the Connemara’s Irish Gaeltacht region, Irish is the first spoken language of this region. Learn about Irish place names and their Gaelic origins.
10h00 Beach Foraging -feel the freshness of the Wild Atlantic breeze, exploring this rugged shoreline, with an interpretative walk, learning about the many uses of seaweeds, foraging techniques and the edible seashore. Cookery demonstration and sampling of the gathered edible seashore
12h30 LUNCH at local pub with freshly caught seafood – mussels, crab or mackerel with some homemade brown bread
14h00 Experience the thrill of the Wild Atlantic Way with a sea trip on the famous Irish ‘Galway Hooker’ in Galway Bay or on a traditional Currach
16h00 Witness the stark landscapes of interlocking bogs, loughs and sea as we travel to the Discovery point Gort Mor, passing Patrick Pearce’s Cottage, who was the leader of the 1916 Rising. Then onto the Discovery point of Carraroe’s Coral Beach
We continue to travel on the coast road viewing Galway Bay and the Aran Islands.
Transfer to Galway City – City of the Tribes

Soak up the nightlife of the City of Tribes, enjoy the music, the Irish pubs and the people of this vibrant city
