1 hour Scenic and Wildlife Nature Tours in glass bottom boat on Barnaderg Bay, Letterfrack. Connemara. Available April to end October. Pax: Min 1. Max 15.
Enjoy a magical hour in a glass bottomed boat – seeing the Wild Atlantic from a different angle. Relax and enjoy the peace, tranquility and closeness to nature of Letterfack Bay in beautiful Connemara on our one hour scenic and wildlife nature tour. Our boat is purpose-built to the highest safety standards and certified by the Department of Transport to operate on one of Europe’s most scenic and well protected bay. You are guaranteed a trip packed full of fun, enjoyment and information. The boat has under-water viewing panels, so you can discover a world beneath the surface that looks like a different planet with its forests of sea weeds and kelp.
This is more than just a viewing trip. See and feel the excitement when children and the young at heart get to hold and touch a real starfish, shrimp or shore crab! Handle real live shellfish and learn about the different species – where they live, what they eat and their lifespan. Letterfrack is a haven for fish species including Grey Mullet, Thorn Back Ray, Dog Fish and Large Bull Huss.
The ecology of Letterfrack has to include the Terns, sea birds that make Letterfrack Bay their home and nesting grounds. The Sandwich and Common Tern fly 7,000 miles from South Africa every Spring/Summer to nest on Lamb’s Island which is a nature reserve. The bay is also home to Grey Herons, Oyster Catchers, Guillemots, Cormorants, Curlews, Great Black Gulls, Great Northern Divers, Mallard Ducks and Black-headed Gulls.
Spot the shy otters’ hide outs and if you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of these playful marine mammals. Other sea mammals that are sometimes seen on the Ballinakill Harbour tour are dolphins and porpoises. Letterfrack is surrounded by the famous Connemara mountains
